Most Corrupt Institution: Chairman of DPR Furious<<

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Accusations of Indonesia’s International Transparency Council saying that Indonesia's parliament is on top being the most corrupt institution has made Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono furious.
The accusation, according to Agung, must be accompanied with proportional and objective arguments to avoid misperception of the people. “Where does the evaluation stand? Is it only the people's perception or what?” he said yesterday (12/11).
Agung said that the survey did not have a clear parameter. He has asked that matters on law be explained positively. “So that it is clear which one is corrupt and which one has the tendency to corruption,” he said.
However, according to Agung, the survey will still be material for correction. “Let the improvement team for the House's performance follow this up,' he said.
A survey of the Indonesia International Transparency Council has stated that parliament—either DPR or DPRD (Regional House of Representatives)--is the most corrupt institution in Indonesia.
In the index scale of corruption, parliament gained the highest score with 4.2—with an index range of 1-5. “Last year, parliament was at the top two with 4.0. It means that parliament goes on more corrupt.” said Head of the Indonesia International Transparency Council Todung Mulya Lubis when announcing the survey “Barometer of Global Corruption 2006” at Indonesia International Transparency's office Saturday (12/9) in Jakarta.
Agung has on the contrary said that the potential corruption was more executive rather than legislative. He said, the reason is that DPR did not hold and control the budget.
