TEMPO Interactive, Doha: On the third day of the multi-sports event at Asian Games Doha 2006, the Indonesian contingent finally achieved a silver medal. Coming in second place was Putty Insavilla Armein.
Witnessed by the National Sports Council (KONI) General Chairman Agum Gumelar, Putty, who played in the first group, at first booked the highest score in the woman’s single category event. This category is joined by 77 participants and took place at Qatar Bowling Center, Doha, yesterday (3/12).
Out of six games that she played, Putty gained a score of 1,395 in total with 232.5 points on average. However, the score was exceeded by Malaysian bowler Mei Lan Esther Cheah who played in the second group.
Mei Lan had the higher score of 1,444 or 49 points difference with Putty whose average points are 240.7. She was also eligible for a gold medal. The bronze medal fell to Angkana Netviseth from Thailand, with a total score 1,331 and average points of 221.8.
Optimism for achieving a gold medal rose in Indonesia’s contingent. This is because the score made by Putty was better than the previous Asian Games record. In addition, the points difference between Putty and second place in the first group was quite big, 113 points.
“I’m not very disappointed. I must admit she played well today. But the result doesn’t dampen my spirits. The battle for today is over, but there are still other games. I will start again from the beginning,” said Putty.
Other Indonesian bowlers who played in womens’ single category were Ivana Hie, Happy Ari Dewanti Soediyono, Tannya Roumimper, Novie Phang and Raniia Anisha Nugroho. However, none of them were able to make it to the top five.
