Lecturer of ITS Dedicates Construction Theory for Singapore

TEMPO Interactive, Surabaya: Lecturer of Department Civil Engineering at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya, Dr Tavio M.S, has dedicated two patent rights on construction to Singapore.

He was forced to do this because he was bound by the terms of his unconditional scholarship with the Singaporean government in 2000.

In the agreement, it was mentioned that all Tavio's works during the period of his receiving scholarship would be owned by the Singaporean government.

The two patent rights resulted in Tavio gaining his doctorate degree at Nanyang Technological University of Singapore.

At that moment, Tavio developed his knowledge on concrete structures.

The two patent rights have the specification that enable a building project to be constructed faster and more efficient as regards financing.

The first Tavio's patent right was a new invention in multi-story building construction.

While multi-story building has so far been supported by columns and blocks, now Tavio has invented block-less construction.

He discovered flat concrete structure so that it will be easier and cheaper in constructing.

Another plus was that Tavio's invention can be used for irregular flat plate.

It means that spaces between columns do not have to be equal.

The initiative can be applied on irregular form which was originated from modern architecture.

For the time being, buildings that do not place columns in equal spaces as an attempt to keep the aesthetics of the building are often seen.

The second patent rights that Tavio dedicated for Singapore was the development from the first patent rights.

The said invention is to be utilized for flat-plate concrete of pre-tight.

Tavio has also attempted in developing the Singapore-owned patented invention.

He has developed design of flat plate with tremor load.

He has also tried to make flat-plate concrete design for pre-tight with tremor load.

“Unexpectedly, Indonesia is subject to earthquake. Therefore, I have also developed it for this purpose.”
