TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Finance and Bank Commission at the House of Representatives (DPR) has finally appointed Muliaman D. Hadad and S Budi Rochadi as the new Deputy Governors of Bank Indonesia (BI).
They will replace Maman H. Soemantri and Maulana Ibrahim who will retire on 11 January 2007.
The selection of Muliaman and Budi was made at a discussion after the House had conducted the fit and proper test process up until last night.
According to a Tempo source in the Commission, for A package, all factions agreed to elect Muliaman as a deputy governor.
“As for B package, all but Prosperous Justice Party Faction agreed to elect Budi Rochadi,” said the anonymous source.
In his presentation, Budi Rochadi promised to improve an efficient, fast, secure, and reliable national payment system.
This will be carried out by printing banknotes with domestic-made paper because the cost of procuring banknote paper is extremely high.
“Through a tight partnership between BI, the government, the Public Company for Printing State Banknotes, and domestic universities, this will take place,” he said.
