Monday, 27 November, 2006 | 09:10 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Medan: Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army General Djoko Santoso has said that the clashes in Ambon were triggered by a conflict at the grass rootslevel.
“This was a youths’ problem. One got angry because someone took a glance at another’s girlfriend,” he said after the transfer of authority of the Military Area Commander I of Bukit Barisan, Meda, on Monday (11/27).
“I also acted like that when I was that age.”
Djoko has asked that the leader who handles the matter must be wise.
However, he has denied an opinion that the clash was caused by the weak control of the Army commander over their men.
For the time being, Indonesian Military is processing its members who were involved in the quarrel.
The quarrel between Indonesian Military and Indonesian Police personnel occurred in Sunday midnight at Wijaya Hotel II, Ambon.
Two military and police personnel were injured.
It was suspected that the quarrel occurred because of a fight over a woman.
