Aceh Governor Candidates Sign Peace Campaign Commitment

TEMPO Interactive, Banda Aceh: Eight candidates for Aceh Governor and Deputy Governor have signed a commitment to campaign in peace.

The Aceh Peaceful Regional Leaders Election Declaration took place in Baiturrahman Mosque, Banda Aceh, on Thursday afternoon (22/11).

Only Iskandar Hoesin, one of the candidates, was absent.

Among the attendants were Home Affairs Minister Ma’aruf, Justice and Human Rights Minister Hamid Awaluddin, Aceh Governor Mustafa Abubakar and Head of the Election Independent Committee M. Jafar.

An invited guest who did not attend was the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) Prime Minister Malek Mahmud.

Hamid Awaluddin, Mustafa Abubakar and Jafar also signed the declaration as witnesses.

Jafar said the declaration was a moral bond for all candidates as regards the carrying out of their campaigns.

He said he hoped that with this commitment, the candidates, their support teams and the candidates’ supporters would join in creating peaceful conditions during campaigning.

Mustafa Abubakar said that people’s support and participation were very important to make the regional leader election successful.
