Aceh Local Party Steering Team Studies Dual Membership

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Steering team for Composing the Government Regulation on Aceh Local Political Parties will discuss local party cadres membership at the structure of national party committee.

“Because in this case there is still ambiguity,” said Djohermansyah Johan, Head of the Steering Committee, at the Home Affairs Department office, Thursday (16/11).

He explained that dual membership causes local party cadres being unable to register as candidate of Aceh legislation and House of Representatives (DPR).

However, in Aceh Governance Decree No. 11/2006, there is not any prohibition against dual membership despite, according to him, it being prohibited.

In the Government Regulation Draft, it is said that a member of local party may become a member of national party if the two parties affiliate in order to strengthen the local party's management.

However, said Djohermansyah, the draft has not yet regulated the voting limit of local political party's participation in the election (electoral threshold)
