France Helps Amend Corruption Law

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Corruption Eradication Committee and the Supreme Court have met with a French law delegation to discuss various legal issues in Indonesia especially the implementation of the anti-corruption law.
The French delegation said they promised to assist setting up a recommendation for amending Law Number 31/1999 concerning the Eradication of the Corruption Criminal Act. “The Indonesian Penal Code is nearly identical with their (France) Penal Code of 1821,” said Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Committee Amien Sunaryadi after a meeting at the Supreme Court building, Jakarta.
According to him, one of the crucial points in the discussion was the implementation of the UN Convention against corruption in Indonesian legislation. The French delegation was led by The Head of the Chief Public Prosecutor of Lyon Jean Pierre Zanoto, two judges and a police officer. The Supreme Court was represented by Deputy Head of the Supreme Court Syamsu Hadi and Supreme Court Judges Iskandar Kamil, Djoko Sarwoko, Parman Suparman and Gunanto. Jean Pierre Zanoto said that his party has also cooperated with various countries in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia such as Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
