TEMPO Interactive, Banjarmasin: At least 21 residents have died, and 20 other people were swept away by the strong current resulting from flooding after landslides in Hampang Sub District, Kotabaru Regency, South Kalimantan.
The Limbur Barat River also overflowed, flooding a total of eight houses.
The flooding that resulted from the landslide in Hampang Su District was caused by heavy rainfall from Saturday to Sunday (25/6).
The heavy rainfall resulted in the Limbur Darat River overflowing thus causing the landslide.
Information gathered by Tempo on Sunday (25/6) up until 10am Wita (Central Indonesian Time), was that the joint SAR team, consisting of personnel from the Indonesian Navy, the Banjarmasin SAR and the South Kalimantan Disaster Relief Coordinating Unit (Satkorlak), had left for the location to search for victims swept away by the current.
Drs Hadi Soesilo, South Kalimantan Satkorlak Secretary, told Tempo, on Sunday evening, that at least four villages-- Hampang, Cantung, Serongga and Sampanahan--were flooded.
