TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Indonesian Military (TNI) Headquarters will allocate Rp11 billion in funding for the security of border areas and outer islands by the Army.
The budget will be included in the budget for maintaining the sovereignty of the Unitary State of Republic of Indonesia.
“These funds will for used at the most for building security posts,” said TNI Chief of Army Staff General Djoko Santoso at the Army's Special Forcer (Kopassus) Headquarters yesterday (21/6).
Djoko said the Department of Defense will also donate some of its budget for building the security posts.
However he did not give details of the amount involved.
In addition to building facilities and infrastructure amounting to Rp11 billion, said Djoko, TNI Headquarters will allocate a budget for the forces that it sends for carrying out operations at border areas.
The border areas or outer islands to be prioritized are ones that do not have any security posts.
In addition, said Djoko, the posts that do exist are no longer in a proper state and will be repaired.
He went on to say that so far the TNI plans to place another four to six posts in Kalimantan and Irian Jaya.
