No Additional Troops in Border Areas
Wednesday, 21 June, 2006 | 14:11 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Palembang: General Djoko Santoso, the Army Chief of Staff, has said that there are no plans to add to the number of troops in the border areas between Indonesia and Timor Leste.

“There are no plans to increase the troops there. The current total is three units, equivalent to a battalion. So far all runs well,” said Djoko after the transfer of duties of Regional Military Command (Kodam) Sriwijaya II Commander from Major General Syahrial B.P.
Peliun to Major General Syarifuddin Tippe in Palembang yesterday (20/6).

The placement of troops in border area depends on the situation and the conditions there.

However, the army will keep evaluating and reviewing both the power of its troops and the existing command posts.
