Indonesia's Position in Trafficking Decreases
Tuesday, 20 June, 2006 | 16:54 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Indonesia's rank for trafficking has declined to level number 2 in the Tier 2 Watch List of the US Department of State, released on June 5 this year. This means that Indonesia is evaluated as being regarded seriously in handling and preventing trafficking.
According to Meutia Hatta, the State Minister for Women’s Empowerment, Indonesia was in a better rank last year: Tier 2. Indonesia is presently among 32 other countries including Malaysia and Cambodia. “We've pushed DPR to shortly finish the Draft Bill on Trafficking,” he said during a working committee with the Commission for Religious Affairs and Social Welfare at DPR in the parliamentary complex yesterday in Jakarta.
