TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The DPR Special Committee has finally finished formulating the Draft Bill for Citizenship after a year of discussions.
Now all that remains for the draft bill is listed to be signed by the government and the DPR in order to become legal.
The plan is that a team of eight persons from respective factions in the DPR will announce the regulation in the mass media on Wednesday next week.
“I'm not yet permitted to reveal any more because there are several matters that still need to be checked. But the contents are now complete,” Slamet Effendi Yusuf, Head of the Special Committee for the Draft Citizenship Bill, told Tempo on Friday evening (16/6).
Slamet has stated that the current completed Draft Bill is already very different compared to the previous one.
He cited the citizenship status of children born from mixed marriage couple or Indonesian children born abroad.
“As for the article that regulates children’s rights, many matters have been changed. It is now more in favor of children,” said Slamet.
Unlike Slamet, Nursjahbani Katjasungkana, a member of the synchronization from the National Awakening Party faction, stated that discussions of the draft bill have only resulted in completion of 23 of the 48 articles.
“After being examined by the team, the outcome will be inspected by the special and working committees. On Monday night (today), it will be discussed again,” he said yesterday (18/6) when contacted.
However, he has agreed with Slamet as regards the draft bill changes.
