Indonesia to Discuss Papuan Matters: DPR
Thursday, 15 June, 2006 | 16:38 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: A delegation from the Commission of Defense and Foreign Affairs at the House of Representatives (DPR), which is currently in Australia, plans to meet with some sanctuary-seeking Papuans and several NGO's focusing on Papua like the Australian West Papua and the Anglican Church.
The follow-up meeting will be set up in Melbourne.
“We'll talk about Papua,” Yuddhi Chrisnandi, a delegation member, said when contacted yesterday in Canberra.
“We'll invite Herman Wanggai and Jacob Rumbiak as well,” the Golkar Party politician added.
Both Herman and Wanggai were members of 42 sanctuary-seeking Papuans in Australia some time ago.
The Australian government granted them temporary residence permits.
The policy has caused the DPR to assign a delegation to stay until Friday (16/6) this week.
However, the members of the delegation are unsure whether or not the Papuans will meet them today since it is the same day as when a decision will be made regarding amendments to the Australian Immigration Bill.
