TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Wirawaan Adnan, the legal adviser of Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, has said that he has requested the government to carry out a review of Ba'asyir case, which resulted in him being imprisoned for two years and six months.
“This is regarding the cleric's reputation,” he said in front of Cipinang Penitentiary, East Jakarta short after Ba'asyir departed from there.
Wirawaan is of the opinion that the review has been submitted to the Supreme Court.
It is hoped that the verdict resulted from the review, according to Wirawan, will be not guilty.
“All charges against Ustad (cleric) such as terrorism and being the Bali bombing's mastermind, are all slander,” he said.
When asked if the result were not guilty, what would Ba'asyir will do to the government, Wirawan said Ba'asyir will forgive all the misconduct and accusations he has received.
“Ustad knows that all of this derived from external and global pressures, so it would be proper if the government is forgiven because we are all humans, not free from mistakes,” he said.
If the result be guilty, then Wirawan will ask what are the violations and charges against Ba'asyir and they all must be processed transparently in line with the law.
“Moreover, Ustad has done his time in prison,” he said.
