TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will meet Timor Leste's President Xanana Gusmao Saturday (17/6). The meeting which will take place in Bali was directly requested by Xanana.
Dino Patti Djalal, the presidential spokesperson, said the meeting is unexpected because it was not planned beforehand. “The meeting was unanticipated due to the request of President Xanana,” said Dino at the presidential office, Jakarta, yesterday (12/6).
The President approve the meeting because prior to this, he had been expecting explanations from President Xanana regarding the latest situation in Timor Leste.
“We have great concern about the situation there,” said Dino. Since the conflict broke out in Timor Leste, Indonesia has closed the border between the two countries to prevent the entry of infiltrators from either Timor Leste or Indonesia.
The government sent food aid and other other goods worth US$700,000 a few days ago.
