Friday, 02 June, 2006 | 10:59 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: At the evaluation meeting held by Secretary General of Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Department of Defense, the government decided to improve the management of border territories.

The endeavor is to optimize the performance of each department in order to handle maximum synchronous, focused and efficient management. “We exchanged opinions so that the work will become more dynamic, not static.,” said Syafrie Syamsudin, Secretary General of Department of Defense, Thursday (1/6).

He added that the management of border territories will be focused on how the Department of Defense regards the aspects of territory, state, and facilitating the Indonesian Military (TNI) in terms of border security. The Department of Foreign Affairs takes into account regional aspects, and the Department of Home Affairs the national juridical facets.

According to Progo Nurdjaman, Secretary General of the Department of Home Affairs, all of the improvements are expected to be in synergy with the layout of development in the border territory and the layout of the government administrative structure.

Three territories whose management will be reorganized are the border area between Indonesia and Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia and Timor Leste. In addition, the plan calls for efforts to evoke the spirit to protect one's state.
