Freeport's Concentrate to Be Tested by DPR
Thursday, 18 May, 2006 | 17:15 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The House of Representatives (DPR) Working Committee for PT Freeport Indonesia is conducting laboratory tests on concentrate shipped by Freeport.
The concentrate samples were taken during a visit by members of the DPR Working Committee to Freeport that ended on May 7.
The location selected for the tests was an independent laboratory.
“The laboratory test is not being facilitated by Freeport,” said Tjatur Sapto Edi, a member of the DPR Working Committee from the National Awakening Party, in Jakarta yesterday (17/5).
In addition to testing the concentrate, the DPR has asked Freeport to pay more attention to ethnic groups around the mining operation area of the company.
“They feel that they haven't been respected,” said Tjatur.
Some of the residents are demanding to be involved in the company's operations.
