KPK: Can Suharto’s Case Be Legally Solved?

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Commission to Eradicate Corruption (KPK) has asked President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to legally solve the case of former President Suharto. The recommendation was delivered by KPK Chairman, Taufiequrrahman Ruki, when meeting with the President at the presidential office, Jakarta, today.
Ruki, who was accompanied by KPK Deputy Chairman, Erry Ryapa Hardjapamekas, said the solution to Suharto's case must be in line with the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Decision No.11/1998.
“There shouldn't be any political solution because this is not a matter of politics, but law,” he said. Regarding the Decision to Stop Prosecution (SKPP) that has been issued by the Attorney General a few days ago, Ruki said this is the right of the Attorney General.
The President agreed with KPK's recommendation. “The President said he was of the same opinion with what KPK recommends. This is connected with the law, so the solution must be surrendered to the law. That is why he did not take a decision,” said Ruki quoting the President.
