Honoris Causa Doctorate for Rosihan Anwar

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Senior journalist Rosihan Anwar was awarded a honoris causa doctorate in journalism and communications from the Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University (UIN), Jakarta, Saturday (6/5).

“Promovendus (Rosihan) is an everlasting journalistic figure,” said Zaini Muchtarom, in his sponsoring speech before an open senate session at the Syarif Hidayatullah UIN.

Zaini and Yunan Yusuf were Rosihan's sponsors at the award ceremony.

Rosihan is considered to have made an extremely monumental contribution to press and journalistic development in Indonesia.

Zaini went on to say that Rosihan was not only consistent in his profession as a journalist, but is also consistent in terms of press idealism.

“These are the foundations on which it is proper and right for him to receive this award,” Zaini emphasized.

Rosihan read his acceptance speech entitled “Journalists, you are the heroes in my heart,” at the ceremony, which was led by Syarif Hidayatullah UIN Rector Azyumardi Azra.

The speech portrayed the journey of journalists from Dutch colonization times until the present.
