TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Counter terrorism unit 81 of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) in the Indonesian Army Force is to join with the police in fighting against terrorism.
“This will be together with Police Detachment 88,” said National Military (TNI) Commander, Marshal Djoko Suyanto after the red beret pinning ceremony at the Kopassus Headquarters in Cijantung, yesterday (3/5).
The cooperation, according to Djoko, came from both sides, not only from Kopassus' offer or the Police's request.
“We (Kopassus) have the skills and equipment, and the police can also help. If a problem is solved by working together and integrating skills, I think it's very good,” said Djoko.
Djoko said that the TNI would fight against terrorism by utilizing its full force.
“All of the TNI forces, personnel, equipment, and skills will be used (for countering terror),” he said.
Kopassus' participation in fighting against terrorism, according to Djoko, has been continuing since TNI's anniversary on October 5, 2005 stated in President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's speech which recommended TNI work together to fight against terrorism.
