Jabir's Death Questioned
Wednesday, 03 May, 2006 | 14:31 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The father of Jabir, a suspected accomplice of terrorist Noor Din M. Top's, is questioning the cause of his son's death.

According to Rusman, there were no gun shots or any other signs of a struggle on his third son's body.

“We question the cause of his death because according to the police, he died after being shot. But the truth is, I saw him myself, there weren’t a gun shot. His body was also untouched,” said Rusman at a press conference at Tipes Mosque, Solo, yesterday.

At the conference, he was accompanied by Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI) officials.

According to Rusman, there are not even any wounds except a bruise on the forehead as if he had beaten.

“There were speckles on his right hand wrist as if he suffered DHF,” he said.

Jabir died in the police raid on a house in Wonosobo, Saturday, with the police claiming he died because of a gun shot.

The police also killed Abdul Hadi and arrested two other terrorist suspects, Mustagfirin and Solahuddin.

Rusman, who was taken by the police to Bayangkara Hospital, Semarang, to identify Jabir's body, recognized the body as Jabir a.k.a. Gempur Budi Angkoro.

Rusman identified him from the teeth, ears, and nose features.

However, to bury his son, he still has to wait about two weeks for the DNA test result.

Responding Rusman's question, the Indonesian National Police Headquarters spokesperson, Brigadier General Anton Bachrul Alam emphasized, Jabir died because of being shot. Two bullets penetrated his body. “One stroke the chest, the other the head,” said Anton yesterday.

Anton went on to say that the raid on the terrorist base in Wonosobo was carried out in haste.

The police assumed Noor Din was inside the house rented since November.

The police, said Anton, had actually found out that Noor Din had not lived there since December last year.

However, one day before the raid, in the house there was an odd activity that never had happened during the police three-month survellience.

“Someone bought a newspaper,” said Anton. “We thought, maybe Noor Din gave the order.”

Endro Sudarsono from MMI Solo regrets Jabir's death.

“Perhaps he wasn’t a terrorist. As long as there is no verdict yet, he is not a terrorist. Why didn't the police arrest the terrorist suspects alive, so that their suspicions could be proved legally,” he said.
