Personal Approach to Papuans
Thursday, 27 April, 2006 | 15:07 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The government has been requested to approach Papuans personally.
Indra Jaya Piliang, a political observer from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), said yesterday (26/4), “Until now the government has only approached Papuan elites.”
The Papuans, Indra went on to say, do not care about politics.
“What they care about is their welfare,” he said.
And welfare matters, according to Indra, are easier for the Independent Papua Organization to develop into issues.
It is better, said Indra, if the government focuses on a personal approach to Papuans.
“Win their hearts,” he said.
