Workers Disappointed with Vice President’s Response

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The All-Indonesia Workers Union (SPSI) have admitted that they were disappointed with the response of Vice President Jusuf Kalla regarding their rejection of the revisions of Law 13/2003 on Manpower.
The Vice President gave his answer when he received ten representatives from the SPSI at a one-hour meeting that started at 2pm today (6/4).
SPSI Central Leadership Council (DPP) Chairman, Sidabutar, said that Jusuf Kalla would only accommodate workers’ aspirations.
“His words were diplomatic, so they (the workers) are disappointed,” said Sidabutar.
The main reason that the workers have rejected the revision to the Law on Manpower is because they really are disadvantageous for them.
Sidabutar threatened that if the government did not react soon, the workers union would carry out a national strike.
“We will do this if no decision is taken,” he said.
The DPP has already sent a letter rejecting the revisions to the Manpower Minister, the Vice President and the President.
The same letter will also be sent to the House of Representatives (DPR).
