Tuesday, 04 April, 2006 | 14:58 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Corruption Crime Eradication Team is investigating budget corruption in the Presidential Secretariat. The case has been scrutinized since yesterday.
.
”Its status is elevated to ‘under investigation.’ This case is continuing from 2004,” said Hendarman Supandji, the team’s chairman.

Although it is under investigation, the examiners have not determined any suspects in the case. According to Hendarman, the potential loss to the state is not tens of billion; however, a loss is confirmed.

”There is a concrete fact by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) in the Presidential Secretariat. The loss is not in tens of billion,” said Hendarman.

He said that the case, at the time when BPK examined the assets of the State Secretariat, such as the Hilton and Kemayoran, is the routine budget of the Presidential Secretariat. Hendarman explained that up to now more than 20 witnesses have been interrogated to explain the suspicion of the crime of corruption.

Regarding the suspicion in the corruption of the organization of the Asia-Africa Conference anniversary, Hendarman said the case continues to be evaluated. “The case keep growing, but the research is limited,” he stressed. Hendarman said that the case which is easiest to deal with and more concrete should be the first to handle.
