TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Iranian Parliament chairman Gholam Ali Haddad Adel has thanks the Indonesian government for supporting Iran’s nuclear program.
Haddad made this statement to Basri Hasanudin, the Indonesian Ambassador in Teheran, and the statement was published in the December 26 issue of the Persian Journal.
Hasanuddin confirmed the statement made by Gholam, when contacted by Tempo in Jakarta on Tuesday (27/12).
“The Indonesian government has admitted the Iran’s rights to have access to nuclear technology for the needs of peace,” he stated.
The matter of nuclear power in Iran is under the international spotlight.
US President George W. Bush has charged that the Iranian civil nuclear program is being been used to hide a nuclear weapons production program.
Bush has even named Iran as one of “the Axis of Evil” together with North Korea.
Hasanuddin added that the government also hoped to see that the matter of Iran’s nuclear program would be settled peacefully.
Indonesia has also urged Teheran to be more open and work with the international community in order to have its nuclear facility checked.
Hasanuddin also said that the Indonesian government considered objections by the international community, including that of the US, as regards the matter of the nuclear program in Iran was not a big issue.
“It’s their problem,” he stated.
According to him, every country has the right to use nuclear technology for the purposes of peace.
