GAM Military Wing To Be Dispersed This Month

TEMPO Interactive, Banda Aceh:The Free Aceh Movement (GAM), according to the spokesman of the (Army of Aceh) Tentara Neugara Aceh (TNA) Sofyan Dawood, will soon announce the dissolution of its military wing following the end of GAM’s weapons decommissioning.

According to Dawood, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the TNA re-joined society. However, the formal dissolution is yet to be carried out. “We will announce all that this month according to the end of the GAM weapons surrender,” stated Dawood.

Dawood confirmed that the dissolution would be carried out with ceremonial activities and the TNA would officially be dispersed to civilians coordinated by the GAM institution, Aceh Interim Committee (KPA).

Irwandi Yusuf, the GAM representative at the AMM, said that the KPA’s short-term objective was to control the TNA members as civilians. The long term will be discussed once again following the preparation of Aceh Administration Law. “We will wait until the current law is finished being discussed in Jakarta,” stated Yusuf.
