Minister of Agriculture: WTO Results to be Beneficial for Indonesia
Tuesday, 20 December, 2005 | 10:31 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Anton Apriyantono has said that the results of the World Trade Organization (WTO) meeting would be beneficial for Indonesia.
Although he did not detail what form the benefits would take, Apriyantono said that the decision came as a very good step.
However, “We still need to negotiate how much the subsidies for the agriculture exports should be every year,” said Apriyantono in Jakarta on Monday (19/12).
“So, this success depends on the continuing negotiations,” he said.
Previously, ministers from 149 WTO member countries conducted week-long talks.
During the meeting, a temporary agreement was made granting agriculture export subsidies until 2013 and the opening of wider markets for poor countries in developed countries. (Ewo Raswa-Tempo News Room)
