TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government has sent a request for clarification to the Hong Kong government in relation to the apparent suicide cases of two Indonesian female workers from Malang, East Java, at the end of November.
According to I Gusti Made Arke, Director General for the Development and Placement of Workers Overseas, this requestshall be delivered by Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong demanding reports on the autopsies and the police investigation.
Two Indonesian female workers, Eka Susanti (19) and Anik Sujarwa (25), reportedly committed suicide by jumping from the apartments where they worked.
Eka jumped from the 38th floor of her apartment block on November 29, after being accused of having stolen a ring owned by her employee Chan Ting Sing.
Anika jumped from the 10th floor of her apartment block because she reportedly stole her friend’s money, amounting to HK$17,000.
Before she jumped, Anika also apparently tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrists.
According to Arka, he felt there was no particular reason for these two Indonesians to want to end their lives.
He said he doubted that they had committed suicide.
“Their salaries were quite high and they both worked on a contract basis,” stated Arka in Jakarta on Monday (12/12).
Therefore, the government has demanded clarification from the Hong Kong police which is investigating the cases.
“We’re waiting for the autopsy reports as well as the of the police investigation reports,” said Arka.
