Immigration Office: Ban on Sidney Jones Revoked From Wednesday

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Cecep Supriatna, Head of Public Relations at the Directorate General of Immigration, has said that the ban Sidney Jones, project director of the International Crisis Group (ICG), was revoked as of Wednesday (30/11).
“Today, Wednesday (30/11), the ban on Sidney Jones is revoked,” said Supriatna.
According to Supriatna, the immigration office is still waiting for an official letter from the President because the government will review its evaluation of Jones in relation to the reason for the ban on her.
“The government’s evaluations can change every time,” he stated.
The immigration office, said Supriatna, was only implementing its duties.
“The government evaluated whether or not someone should be banned. The immigration office implementing the government’s order,” he stated.
Previously, Minister of Justice and Human Rights Hamid Awaluddin said that the ban on Jones was made following input from the police and intelligence authorities.
However, the police have denied having suggested Jones be banned.
“The police have nothing to do with Jones,” said an official at the National Police headquarters (HQ).
