Immigration Office: The Ban on Sidney Jones Is Revoked This Year
Wednesday, 30 November, 2005 | 22:37 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Immigration Directorate General’s spokesman Cecep Supriatna said that Sidney Jones, the project director of the International Crisis Group (ICG) for Southeast Asia was revoked on Wednesday (30/11). “On Wednesday (30/11), the ban on Sidney Jones is revoked,” said Supriatna.

According to Supriatna, immigration office is still waiting for the official letter from the president by reason that the government will review the evaluation on Jones related to the ban on her. “The government evaluation can change every time,” stated Supriatna.

Immigration, said Supriatna, was only the implementation of the task. “The government is the one evaluating whether or not someone is allowed to be banned. The immigration office is the one implementing the government’s order,” Supriatna stated. Previously,

Indonesian Minister of Justice and Human Rights Hamid Awaluddin said that the ban on Jones was made following the inputs from the police and intelligence. However, the police denied of having given the suggestion for Jones’s ban. “The police has nothing to do with Jones,” said an official at the National Police headquarters (HQ).(Rengga-Tempo News Room)
