Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief Does Not Discern GAM’s Plan to Consolidate
Wednesday, 30 November, 2005 | 10:15 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto said that he does not see any intention from the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) to consolidate.

This statement was aimed at responding to the doubts on the use of re-integration funds of the former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) members to unite the internal GAM.

“So far, we don’t witness that. I feel there is a seriousness from GAM,” stated Sutarto at the TNI Army headquarters (HQ) on Veteran street in Jakarta on Tuesday (29/11). According to Sutarto, this is proven from the GAM weapons surrender.

Sutarto hoped that the peace process would not be concerned by suspicion of the GAM consolidation.

Regarding the release of the funds amounting to Rp1 million per month for former GAM members, Sutarto said that the money needed to be delivered so that these former GAM members could straighten out their life. (Fanny Febiana-Tempo News Room)
