Indonesian Navy Holds Largest War Games Here

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Navy is to hold the largest war games here with the Eastern Region Fleet.
The games, which shall be held along 81,000 km of Indonesia’s coast line as far as the waters of the Ambalat block, were opened by Indonesian Navy Admiral Slamet Subiyanto just off the city of Surabaya on Monday (21/11).
The war games will involve 5,000 landing troop personnel, warship crew and supporting teams, as well as various types of combat equipement.
The war games training program, named Armada Jaya XXV 2005, involves many elements of the Integrated Fleet Weapon System force (SSAT).
The peak of the training will be marked by the landing of amphibious craft in East Kalimantan, involving 40 warships.
A total of 29 ships were amongst the amphibious joint task command, including the Fatahillah 361, the Nala 363, the Untung Suropati 872, the Patimura, the Rencong 622 and the Teluk Penyu 513.
In addition, the training shall be backed up by one Cassa CN 212 plane, one Nomad N-22 plane, two BO-105 helicopters and two NB-412 helicopters, as well as four frogman teams, two salvage teams and other teams from the Indonesia Air Force and Army.
Subijanto said the war games were not meant as a show of force by the Indonesian Navy towards Malaysia although they were carried out near the waters of the Ambalat block.
According to him, these games are aimed at improving the quality of the Indonesian Navy in the future.
