TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Vice President Jusuf Kalla has asked the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) to help in handling unemployment and lack of work opportunities in Indonesia, which has led to suicide bombers acting in the name of religion.
“The suicide bombing was carried out by unemployed persons or people from the lowest economic level because they were easily influenced,” said Jusuf Kalla during the opening of the sixth International Conference on Islamic Finance and Economy at the Vice Presidential office in Jakarta on Monday (21/11).
The suicide bombings, said the Vice President, had killed many Muslims that it was necessary to discuss and consider this problem in a wider scope, in order was in an international meeting.
“This is an important fact that must be answered by Muslim people themselves. Therefore, I have asked the IDB to help us in this matter,” stated Kalla.
The Vice President revealed the need to provide work opportunities, particularly for the young, in order to establish equality and improve welfare as well as reduce the gap between the poor and the rich.
It is easy to indoctrinate those who do not have jobs with wrong definitions of Islam.
“One of our challenges is how to establish equality for members of society,” stated Kalla.
