GAM Again Hands Over 92 Weapons

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Aceh’s Barat Daya and Nagan Raya regions handed over 92 weapons to the Aceh Monitoring Mission (AMM) on the third day of the third weapons handing over stage on Wednesday (16/11).
The first handing over was carried out at 9am at the Blang Pidie square in Aceh Barat Daya.
Members of GAM transported the weapons in five sacks using cars.
According to AMM Press Officer Faye Belnis,GAM handed over 42 weapons in Aceh Barat Daya.
“We accepted 28 weapons and rejected 14,” stated Belnis.
Of the 28 weapons received by the AMM, Indonesian representatives still have problems regarding five of them.
Following the weapons handing over in Aceh Barat Daya, AMM officers, GAM representatives and TNI high-ranking officers went to Nagan Raya for the handing over process of 50 weapons.
Here, 41 weapons were received and 9 were rejected.
On Thursday (17/11), GAM members in South Aceh will hand over their weapons.
On this last day, GAM has to hand over sufficient weapons to fulfill the target of 210 weapons received by the AMM in the third stage, based on the Helsinki agreement. (Adi Warsidi-Tempo News Room)
