TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla has sent a humanitarian team to help earthquake victims in Pakistan.
According to Kalla, the victims urgently require medicines, food and blanket.
“We will send around 10 tons of aid,” the Vice President told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/10).
The government hopes that the aid will be able to reach the location of the disaster.
As reported earlier, Kashmir is one of the countries worst affected by the disaster.
Based on the information that he had received, Kalla said, the lines of communication to Kashmir were cut off.
Initially, the government had planned to send aid in the form of field hospitals together with medical personnel.
However, the plan changed after the Pakistani ambassador to Indonesia said that the victims mostly needed food and medicine.
“This was also based on our experience when Indonesia was hit by the tsunami disaster in Aceh. There were many field hospitals, but they were not too effective,” stated Kalla. (Budi Riza-Tempo News Room)
