Friday, 23 September, 2005 | 13:44 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu has said that chickens being sold in markets are healthy and not infected by the bird flu virus.
This is because chickens are among the animals vulnerable to this virus, so those that are infected will die quickly.
“Once again, the current bird flu virus is not present in poultry farming,” Pangestu said during a working meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI on Wednesday (21/09).
In the future, if the virus is connected to poultry farming, she said, the government would contain the locations involved.
Pangestu said that she was yet to receive any information on the spread of the virus at chicken farms.
Currently, she said that she would continue her coordination with the agricultural department in keep receiving the latest information.
“As soon as any location is considered to be affected by the virus, it will immediately be quarantined,” stated Pangestu. (Indriani Dyah S.-Tempo News Room)
