TEMPO Interactive, Kuta, Bali:Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla opened the second Asia-Pacific maritime and fisheries ministerial annual meeting at the Patra Hotel, Bali, on Friday (16/09).
The meeting, entitled “The Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation Ocean Related Ministerial Meeting (The AOMM) II”, was to discuss cooperation in developing maritime resources in Asian Pacific countries.
Kalla said that the sea has abundant resources that can become used as a working place for cooperation between several countries.
“This is especially important in terms of empowering fishermen and improving their welfare,” stated the Vice President.
Kalla hoped that the “Bali Plan Action” created at the meeting would result in a true commitment as regards conducting proper sea and coast management in the economic interests of Asian-Pacific countries.
The AOMM I, which was held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2004, resulted in several points of agreement.
These included the implementation of cooperation and coordination in the sector of global maritime and fisheries, such as financial and technical support for the sustainable economic development as well as the management of water environment and maritime ecosystems, particularly for OPEC members.
