Australian Foreign Minister Praises Death Sentence for Rois
Wednesday, 14 September, 2005 | 21:36 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Australian foreign minister Alexander Downer has welcomed the death sentence imposed by South Jakarta District Court judges on Rois aka Iwan Darmawan, who was convicted in the Kuningan bombing case, on Tuesday (14/09).
Downer also delivered his gratitude to the Indonesian government over its commitment in handling terrorism cases.
“We are very pleased about the death sentence being imposed. We do not have the death sentence in our legal system, but this ruling has shown the commitment of the Indonesian government in combating terrorism cases. The judicial system has worked properly in Indonesia, there is no doubt about that,” stated Downer in London as reported by news.com.au.
Manuel Musu, whose wife, Maria Eva Kumalawati died because of the bombing in front of Australian Embassy in Jakarta on September 9, last year, welcomed the sentence imposed by the judges.
“That’s justice,” said Manuel Musu from his residence in Verona, Italy.
“I’m very glad to hear this ruling. If the bombers say they do not regret what they have done due to the will of Allah, now it’s Allah that wants the death of these bombers,” stated Musu.
One year after the tragedy, Manuel’s daughter Elisabeth “Manny” Musu, 5, who suffered brain damage because of the bombing, is still alive.
