President Questions Fuel Shortages

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono once again led a long-distance meeting from New York using teleconference facilities on Wednesday morning (14/09).
During the meeting, the President requested a report from the Minister for Energy and Natural Resources regarding the fuel situation in Indonesia.
“Is it true that there have been fuel shortages in Indonesia?” asked President Yudhoyono in New York on Wednesday (14/09) morning.
The President also requested explanations from ministers regarding the scenario for the fuel price increases that have been scheduled to be carried out in October.
“Has the House of Representatives (DPR) been consulted informally about the plan for the fuel price increases?
Please report on this matter to me,” stated Yudhoyono.
The President asked the Trade Minister over the availability of the nine basic household goods when the fuel price increases take place.
“These nine basic household goods need to be made available throughout all region,” stated Yudhoyono.
If there were to be any price increases of the nine basic household goods, the President said he hoped that this would be rational following the fuel price increases.
“This is because in the past time, the price of some commodities did not increase in line with fuel price increases,” said Yudhoyono.
The President said that he had just attended an informal meeting of Non-Aligned Movement countries led by Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi.
Yudhoyono said he has also attended the ASEAN-UN Summit.
