Army’s Defense Budget the Largest
Saturday, 10 September, 2005 | 18:33 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Army will receive the largest budget, compared to the two other forces within the Indonesian Military (TNI) organization, in the 2006 Defense Department budget.

Based on a temporary draft of the 2006 budget, the Army will receive Rp9,251.42 billion out of the Defense Department’s budget from the government, which is around Rp23,640.88 billion.

Although the figure is not too large, the amount of the budget for the Army has increased compared to previous years.

In 2005, TNI Army has received a total budget of Rp9,083.87 billion and this will be increased by 1.84 percent in 2006.

In a press conference on Friday (09/09) at the Defense Department in Jakarta, Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono told reporters that the Army had received the largest budget as the number of Army personnel or troops is larger than the Navy or Air Force.

“The budget for the Army is larger as the number of the army personnel, employees and troops is higher than the other forces. Because of this, around 65 percent or more of the budget will be allocated for personnel and maintenance costs,” stated Sudarsono. (Sunariah-Tempo News Room)
