Replacement of TNI Commander to Be Discussed After President US Visit
Friday, 09 September, 2005 | 11:30 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The replacement of the Indonesian Military (TNI) commander will likely be discussed following the return of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from his visit to the United States.
State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra made this statement to reporters before accompanying the President to receiving the credentials of several ambassadors from friendly nations at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (08/09).
According to Mahendra, he received a letter from House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono early this week regarding the replacement of the TNI commander.
This letter has been delivered to the President, but he is yet to make any comment regarding this.
“We will discuss this matter. However, there have been no orders so far for me to prepare this,” said Mahendra.
However, he did admit that he did not yet know the President’s reason for postponing the TNI commander replacement process.
As reported earlier, President Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the United Nations (UN) Summit at the UN headquarters in New York, USA, next week and to continue his official journey to Middle East countries, including Saudi Arabia and Palestine. (Dimas Adityo-Tempo News Room)
