UN Not Allowed to Only Represent Developed Countries
Saturday, 20 August, 2005 | 20:09 WIB
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has welcomed the reform within the United Nations (UN) organization.
According to President Yudhoyono, this must represent all countries in the world and reflect the voice of each country member.
“Indonesia is happy that the UN must represent all of us. It is not allowed to only represent the voices of developed countries or Western countries or particular countries that won the Second World War. It should not be like that,’ stated Yudhoyono in his speech celebrating the anniversary of the Foreign Ministry on Friday (19/08) in Jakarta.
The president went on to say that reform within the body of the UN must be oriented towards this.
Yudhoyono explained that support for reform within the body of the UN was because the members wished to have democracy and reform within the UN, not just a one-sided action by a certain group of people or countries.
“This is our basic position, and later in my speech on Septemeber 16 in New York I will present our position,” stated Yudhoyono.
Regarding free and active politics that have become a basic principle of Indonesia’s international relations, the President said that international politics could not be faced with only sentiment but rather with reality.
