TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian Defense Ministry and the Indonesian Military (TNI) headquarters have put in a request for additional budget funding during the 2005 budgetary year amounting to Rp2 trillion.
This additional budget funding is aimed at improving the TNI’s capabilities in relation to its duty to maintain the defense of the state.
“We know we (TNI) have great many needs. Therefore, we want to make sure how much additional funding we will receive and what this will be prioritized for,” said TNI Commander Gen. Endriartono Sutarto after a meeting to discuss the TNI budget at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (03/08).
This request for additional budget funding for the TNI shall be presented by the Minister of Finance for discussions with the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission of Defense and Budget.
“This is important to obtain the DPR approval,” said Sutarto.
The TNI Commander added that he also wished for a division between budget funding to improve the TNI’s capabilities and funding for TNI operations in securing conflict areas. (Dimas Adityo-Tempo News Room)
