TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Australian government has donated US$38 million (around Rp3.8 trillion) for the eradication of trans-national crimes.
This donation is to finance an anti-terror center and school for the next five years.
Previously, Australia and Indonesia had already worked together to establish the anti-terrorist school called the Jakarta Center for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) and the International Anti-terror Training Center (Platina).
The donation was presented by Australian Minister for Justice and Customs & Excise Chris Ellison on Wednesday (03/08) at the campus of the Semarang Police Academy, the where JCLEC and Platina are based.
“These funds shall be used to cover the operational activities of JCLEC and Platina for five years. These activities including training to eradicate money-laundering, human trafficking and terrorism. These are all trans-national crimes,” said Ellison.
The JCLEC and Platina were officially opened by former President Megawati Soekarnoputri a year ago at the Police Academy campus.
Although the centers were founded by Indonesia and Australia, 345 police personnel from 33 countries have attended training programs there. (Sohirin-Tempo News Room)
