TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Commission of Truth and Friendship (KKP), which was established by the Indonesian and East Timorese governments, will officially start work on August 4 or 5, in Denpasar, Bali.
In a press conference held on Monday (01/08) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministry’s spokesperson Yuri Thamrin said that the duty of the KKP was to find out the truth about the causes of human rights violations in East Timor in 1999.
In its work, the KKP is authorized to access all documents in a legal manner, whether the documents belong to the Human Rights Violation and Investigation Commission or to the Human Rights Court in Jakarta.
The KKP has a one- year assignment.
“However, we can extend this if necessary,” said Thamrin. (Sunariah-Tempo News Room)
