Lopez Da Cruz Promises to Convince Portuguese Government

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Fransisco Xavier Lopez Da Cruz, the Indonesian Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Portugal, has promised that he would convince the Portuguese government and people that human rights violations in East Timor following ballot would be settled through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Cruz told reporters, after being inaugurated by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the State Palace on Tuesday (26/07), that the commission was the best way of settling the matter.
According to Cruz, the Indonesian Republic and East Timor wish to seek the truth over human rights violations in the past.
He added that this was not aimed at bringing anyone to justice but rather on them realizing past mistakes.
During the inauguration of Da Cruz, President Yudhoyono sent his greetings to the Portuguese President and Prime Minister.
The President also said that the Indonesian government intended to improve bilateral cooperation between the two countries, that will be beneficial for both sides.
