US Embassy Ready to Remove Road Separators
Friday, 22 July, 2005 | 11:11 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The US Embassy has stated its readiness to remove road separators that have turned its office on Jakarta’s Jalan Merdeka Selatan into a “fortress.”

However, US Embassy spokesperson Max Kwak said that the US Embassy has requested Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso make “proper arrangements for the the embassy security.”

Sutiyoso had earlier requested the US, British and Australian Embassies to immediately remove road separators because they disturb public areas and cause traffic jam on streets.

Some citizens even protest by sounding their car horns every time they pass in front of the embassies.

Up to Wednesday (20/07), the one-meter high and 250-meter long separators were still to be seen in front of the US Embassy.

These separators were also still covered with barbed wire.

Four security officers and two armed National Police Mobile Brigade personnel are still standing guard at the location. (Ramidi & Raden Rachmadi-Tempo News Room)
