Thursday, 21 July, 2005 | 17:44 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Denpasar, Bali:A law professor from the University of Indonesia, Indriyanto Seno Adji, is to be invited as an expert witness in the trial of Schapelle Leigh Corby, an Australian who was convicted to 20 years in prison for having 4.1 kilograms of marijuana in her possession.

The trial of Corby has been re-opened to hear the testimonies of additional witnesses proposed by the lawyers.

The trial led by head of judges Linton Sirait was full of Australian journalists.

Answering questions posed by Corby’s lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea, Indriyanto Seno Adji detailed the kinds of responsibilities used in criminal law.

According to Seno Adji, there are two types of criminal law, monolithic and dualistic.

The first one only bases the responsibility of the original crime on the offense.

The dualistic principle also sees takes into account the material facts.

The questioning of the witnesses will continue on August 3, 2005.

The lawyers of the convicted are to invite Bali Police drugs director Adj. Comm. Bambang Sugiharto.

Sugiharto’s presence is to explain the reason why the authorities did not check for finger prints on the plastic covering the marijuana when it was found at the Ngurah Rai airport in October 2004.

The lawyers will also try to call an officer from Sydney airport.

This officer is expected to reveal the weaknesses of the airport security system that make it possible to put an item into a passenger’s bag.
