Save Energy Movement Successful
Thursday, 21 July, 2005 | 17:36 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The save energy movement set up by the Indonesian government has succeeded in reducing the use of electricity by up to 900 megawatt during peak hours on the islands of Java and Bali.

This was proven by the decreased scale of load at the power load control center for Java and Bali in Gandul, Jakarta.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that previously the differences between the peak load and the basic load was 1,500 MW.

“Now, the differences are only between 600 MW and 700 MW,” Yusgiantoro told reporters at the presidential office in Jakarta on Wednesday (20/07).

The peak hours in the Java-Bali electricity system last from 5pm to 10 pm with previous power consumption of between 14,000 MW and 15,000 MW.

Yusgiantoro said that he did not yet know the result of the save energy movement as regards transportation fuels.

“It is a little difficult to calculate savings in terms of fuel consumption,” he stated.

Current fuel supply stocks are sufficient for 19 days.
Yusgiantoro said he was convinced that fuel stocks would rise to a level of 22 days by the end of July. (Budiriza-Tempo News Room)
